Elizabeth got a set of finger puppets in some of her Easter eggs this year—the characters from the first Easter, including Jesus, an angel, a Roman soldier, Mary Magdalene, and a couple disciples. Seemed like an innocuous way to bring a bit of the actual reason for the day back into the hunt.
The problem with giving a child religious themed toys is that they will actually play with them. And often in ways that are not doctrinally sound.
A few weeks after Easter I overheard on conversation where there was some very petty in-fighting going on between the disciples, and at least one other where there seemed to be some kind of love triangle. I intervened long enough to redirect things a bit and play along as everyone got trapped in a boat in a storm and Jesus made repeated walk on water rescues, but soon after they were back to squabbling over more Earthly issues. And then I decided that this might actually be a fairly accurate portrayal of the early church, shrugged my shoulders, and let her play.
